Our next monthly event is December 11, 2010 - Take a Trekker to Jail Day.
Jesus was friends with sinners and criminals. He broke bread with them and treated them with a status and dignity they did not feel they deserved. As Mission Trekkers we are traveling to the King County Youth Detention Center in Seattle to learn about the social mission of the Church, by visiting the very place Jesus most urges us to go.
We will leave the youth center at 9am and travel to Seattle, Wa.
We will participate with Joe Cotton, The Catholic Detention Minister until noon.
Bring money for lunch. We will decide on a lunch spot in Seattle and then return home by 2ish.
The program includes:
- Games and Icebreakers
- a presentation on the Church's social mission based on Matthew's description of the sheep and goats
- an opportunity to increase our understanding of offenders by exploring the role of suffering in life
- a communal prayer experience just a few yards away from incarcerated youth
- a chance to make personalized cards and provide holiday gifts and cards for the teen
